India is a beautiful country filled with magnificent children. While I was there for six weeks I spent the majority of my time in three children’s homes. One of them, Hope of Glory Foundation, specializes in rescuing children from a life of living on the streets.I noticed as I was helping the children with their homework that their english reading and writing skills were not up to par with their speaking ability. I looked around their home and saw ten used children’s nooks. How can a child increase their English skills without the materials to practice reading and writing? The children are eager to learn English and absolutely love it when teams come to visit them so they can enhance their speaking skills.
In response to seeing the children’s desire to learn the English language and their limited resources, my mother has started a collection of books to mail overseas to the home. Currently, there are 500 books packed and ready for mailing. There are a variety of books for all ages, including several genres. The goal is to send 500 books to the children’s homes I spent time with: Hope of Glory Foundation, Santvannah AIDS/HIV Children’s Home, and Sparsh. One box of 20-30 books cost $60.00 to mail.
If you would like to help orphans in India with their literacy in English, here is the perfect opportunity. Contact me for more information: moriahpaterson@earthlink.net

Dear Moriah, Grandma and I have mailed 5 boxes of books and two boxes of stuffed animals (Grandma paid the postage on the stuffed animals in honor of Grandma McDonald’s birthday). They receive the packages by regular post just fine. If you mail something to them be sure to mark it as a gift and the dollar value as zero, so they do not have taxes on the items. We still have at least 8 boxes of books yet to mail. We have slowed down for a while as we have donated money for some of their other needs as well. Love Mom
Dear Moriah, I have just moved the boxes out of the foyer and now count 15 boxes plus some books not boxed up yet. I have some books that can be used for educational purposes separate.
